The Site is Complete:- What do I do Next?

When a new web card is launched, or placed on the Web, ways of advertising its existence need to be considered. Around 80% of all  online business transactions are the result of SERPs- Search Engine Results Pages returns.

Optimising a site for the search engines is a good idea but, on its own, is unlikely to be effective. There are far too many sites of a similar nature out there with all of them doing the same optimisation.

However, if the contents of your site can be categorised accurately, it is quite possible to have it returned high on SERPs listings with a minimum of effort and in a very cost effective way.

 

To demonstrate this, think of keywords or phrases that relate to your particular business or service and type them into a Google or Yahoo search panel. Next, study the returns carefully.

 

Page after page will be returned with listings from all manners of online directories as well as classified ad and local community sites. In a very recent Yahoo search for motel accommodation near Dublin Airport, not a single individual site turned up on the first ten pages!

 

When you think about it, the reason for this is not hard to understand. Such sites are professionally designed and highly optimised for search engine indexing.   They are very keyword -rich also and their contents are categorised in a way that the likes of Googlebot or Slurp love. (Those are the automatic indexing programs used by Google and Yahoo respectively.)

More than likely, those sites will also invest money in Google Adword campaigns or with Yahoo’s Sponsored Search program.  All in all, sites that advertise in such directories and other resource sites are far more likely to  get the public's attention than could ever be hoped for if  SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) alone was used.

Many allow free advertising space and others will charge fees for such listings. Generally, the charges are quite reasonable. Many also will allow a hyperlink to the advertiser’s own website.

There is a strong possibility that such advertising may bring enquiries directly from people visiting them but the big bonus is that searches for keywords that your visitors are likely to use will result in your site being returned by the likes of Google or Yahoo.

 

Since listing your site on multiple sites can be time -consuming and extremely tedious, a good idea is to open a text file and type in those words and phrases that you are likely to need time and again. They can then be copied and pasted into various site submission forms as needed.
